A Chinese saying, "买家不如卖家精," It means that
"the seller is always smarter than the buyer". No matter how smart a customer is, sellers always have their pricing strategies worked out. This holds true in our daily lives. most of us don't think much about how products are priced.
I've been a gamer since I was a kid. I had PS, PS2. Back then, games were a one-time purchase on cartridges, CDs, or DVDs. But today, many popular mobile games are free to download, with players spending money on in-game characters and skins. Game companies have shifted to this model because it's so profitable. A single game disc used to cost around 6,000-7,000 yen. If ten players each spend just 1,000 yen, that's already 10,000 yen. Even small purchases from many players can add up to huge profits for the developers.
Let's think deeper. In a fighting game like Street Fighter, a character like Guile is always there, even when other characters come and go. Why? Because he's so popular. If Guile were to disappear, the company would lose a huge number of players. Game developers are always watching the market and player feedback to make these kinds of adjustments.
Next time you're at a coffee shop, try to put yourself in the owner's shoes and think about their business strategy. It's a really interesting exercise.
