“Hero’s Island”

I watched the movie “Hero’s Island” at a theater. This is a story about a group that robbed things from Kadena Airbase in Okinawa. They were called “Senka-agya”, meaning “people who achieve results in a war. This is a fiction, but the most real accidents that happened in Okinawa are told in this story: the Okinawa F-100 crash at the Miyamori Elementary School in 1959, the Chibana Gus accident in 1969, the Koza riot in 1970, and so on. Shindo Junjo wrote the original novel, and it won the Naoki Prize in 2018. When I watched this movie, there was a small audience, about 20. I think more Japanese should watch this movie and learn about the history between Okinawa and Japan.

映画館で映画「宝島」を観ました。 これは沖縄の嘉手納基地から物を盗んだ集団の物語です。 彼らは「戦果（せんか）あぎゃー」と呼ばれていました。「戦果を上げる人々」という意味です。 これはフィクションですが、物語の中では沖縄で実際に起こった事故が描かれています。1959年の宮森小学校でのF-100墜落事故、1969年の知花ガス事故、1970年のコザ騒動などです。 原作は真堂順丈さんの「宝島」という小説で、2018年に直木賞を受賞しました。 私がこの映画を観た時は、観客は20人ほどと少人数でした。 もっと多くの日本人がこの映画を観て、沖縄と日本の歴史について学ぶべきだと思います。
