Actual Library

The movie“Library Wars: The Last Mission" is an SF movie in which the library fights against censorship to protect “the freedom of reading”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8cBAVGLW6c I went to an actual library to return a book. The book was borrowed from the other library through my nearest library. I handed the book to a librarian and asked, “Could I extend the expiration date?” She said, “I’m afraid it can’t.” So, I handed her a request card that I had prepared beforehand. Suddenly, an older librarian rushed in and said to me, “Don’t you know you can’t re-request this book?  The book from another library can neither be extended nor re-requested.” If there is a system to confirm whether the book has another reader or not, this book must be able to extend the expiration date. Because my requested book is a book that has a rare reader. I thought the actual library isn’t trying to protect “the freedom of reading.”

映画『図書館戦争 ラスト・ミッション』は、図書館が「読書の自由」を守るために検閲と戦うSF映画です。 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8cBAVGLW6c 実際に図書館へ本を返却しに行きました。 その本は、最寄りの図書館を通して他の図書館から借りたものでした。 司書さんに本を渡して「貸出期限を延長できますか？」と尋ねました。 「申し訳ありませんが、できません」と言われました。 そこで、事前に用意しておいたリクエストカードを渡しました。 すると、突然、年配の司書さんが駆け込んできて、「この本は再リクエストできないんですよ？ 他の図書館から借りた本は、延長も再リクエストもできませんよ」と言いました。 もし、他の読者がいるかどうかを確認するシステムがあるなら、この本は貸出期限を延長できるはずです。 なぜなら、私がリクエストした本は、なかなか読者がいない本だったからです。 図書館側は「読書の自由」を守ろうとしていないのではないかと思いました。
