A suitcase is a case for carrying suits. A briefcase is a flat case for carrying papers or books, not for carrying short, snug underpants(=briefs). Briefing is the detailed instructions or information that are given at such a meeting. For example, flight crews have a briefing before their flight and a debriefing after the flight. Originally, the “brief” came from “brevis →breve”　in Latin and meant “short “, and it has a history of being used as a "concise command document" such as a papal document.
