"About Gossips", the homework for Open University

I read two articles about gossips before I wrote this essay. The first, titled Gossip in Social Situations, claims that gossip can have a positive effect. The article presents research showing that gossip helps build stronger, deeper bonds between individuals, facilitating a more relaxed, enjoyable social life.  The second article, titled 'Don't gossip!', argues that gossip has a negative effect. It states that most online gossips are untrue, have negative effects on society, and it brakes social relationships. While these two articles refer to gossips themselves, neither mention the quality of the gossip. Therefore, the first article is saying about the positive side of gossip, while the second article is saying about the negative side of gossip. As there are two aspects to gossip, we should check whether what we are about to share is true or false. If it is true, sharing it could have a positive effect on our social interactions, as suggested by the first article. However, if the gossip is fake, we should avoid using it as a communication tool. In conclusion, I think that we need to communicate by using positive gossips.

このエッセイを書く前に、ゴシップに関する記事を2つ読みました。 1つ目は「社会的な状況におけるゴシップ」と題されたもので、ゴシップには良い影響があると主張しています。 この記事では、ゴシップは人々の間により強く深い絆を築き、よりリラックスした楽しい社会生活を促進するという研究結果が紹介されています。 2つ目は「ゴシップはやめよう！」と題されたもので、ゴシップには悪い影響があると主張しています。 オンラインでのゴシップのほとんどは真実ではなく、社会に悪影響を及ぼし、社会的な人間関係を壊すと述べています。 これら2つの記事はゴシップそのものについて言及していますが、どちらもゴシップの質については触れていません。 つまり、1つ目の記事はゴシップの良い面について、2つ目の記事はゴシップの悪い面について述べていることになります。 ゴシップには2つの側面があるため、これから共有しようとしている内容が真実か虚偽かを確認する必要があります。 もしそれが真実なら、最初の記事で示唆されているように、それを共有することは私たちの社会的な交流に良い影響を与える可能性があります。 しかし、もしそれが偽物であれば、それをコミュニケーションツールとして使うことは避けるべきです。 結論として、私たちはポジティブなゴシップを使ってコミュニケーションをとる必要があると思います。
