Kakutaro knows that his wife Osei has an affair, but he can’t get a divorce. When she went out to see his young lover, he played hide-and-seek with his son and his son’s friends. He hid in a chest, and he was locked in it. After coming back, she heard the rustling noise from the chest. She first tried to open the rid, but shut the rid again. That night, she acted out the play in which she first discovered the dead body in front of her son and her maidservants. The relatives, a doctor, and police were called, and the doctor declared that his death was natural. When the police opened the chest, they found the backside of the chest, where there were blood-written letters “Osei”. However, they thought it meant that he so loved her instead of pointing out the last message that the culprit was Osei.

「お勢登場」　江戸川乱歩 https://www.aozora.gr.jp/cards/001779/files/57504_62544.html  格太郎は結核にかかり、長く生きられないことを悟っていた。 妻おせいの浮気を知っているが、離婚することができない。 妻が若い恋人に会いに出かけた時、角太郎は息子とその友達とかくれんぼをした。 彼は箱の中に隠れ、閉じ込められた。 帰ってきてから、箱からカサカサという音が聞こえた。 最初は蓋を開けようとしたが、また閉めてしまった。 その夜、おせいは息子と女中たちの前で、初めて遺体を発見した時の芝居を演じた。 親族、医者、警察が呼ばれ、医者は自然死を宣告した。 警察が箱を開けると、裏側には血で「おせい」という文字が書かれていた。 しかし、警察は、犯人がおせいだという最後のメッセージを指摘するのではなく、彼が妻を深く愛しているという意味だと解釈した。
