"I feel so sorry for you." No one comes to mind who would say that to
me, so I will surely die alone of a broken heart.
Translated by Peter MacMillan
Not one person who would call my plight pathetic comes at all to mind, and so, uselessly I must surely die!
Translated by Joshua S. Mostow
Sure that there is none.
Who will speak a pitying word, I shall pass away.
Ah! my death shall only be My own folly's (fittingend). Translated by Clay MacCauley
Kentokukò =Fujiwara no Koretada/Koremasa, also known as Ichijō Sesshō, was a Japanese statesman, courtier, politician and waka-poet during the Heian period.
He was handsome and wise, and his personality was flashy.
He was born as the eldest son of Fujiwara no Morosuke, who supported the court's government as udaijin during the reign of Emperor Murakami, and he died at the young age of 49 years.
