I Went to a Shrine for Purification 神社にお祓いに行った

Yakudoshi means unlucky years. 厄年は悪い年の意味だ。 We believe that certain ages bring bad luck, such as 61 years old. 私たちはある年齢は悪いことが起こると信じている。例えば、６１歳。 There is a traditional way of counting age, called  Kazoedoshi that is one year older than your actual age. 昔ながらの年齢の数え方があり、実際の年齢より一歳多い数え年と呼ばれている。 This way of counting is used for Yakudoshi. この数え方が厄年に使われる。 Therefore, I am now 59 years old, and my Kazoedoshi is 60 years old. つまり、私は今５９歳で、数え年では、６０歳だ。  It is said that bad luck is likely to happen before one year or one year after Yakudoshi, so superstitious people go to shrine for three years in a row to word off misfortunes. 悪いことは、厄年の一年前と一年後に起こると言われているので、縁起を担ぐ人は、３年連続で神社へ行って、お祓いをしてもらう。 Since nothing has been going well for the last several months, I realized that I am maeyaku (one year before yakudoshi). ここ数か月何事も上手く行かないので、私は前厄だと気づいた。 I ventured to the shrine near my house to be purified. 近所の神社へお祓いへ行ってみた。 I went into the shrine followed by a Shinto priest. 神主さんについて、神社の中に入った。 I took a seat at the back of the shrine. 神殿の後ろに座った。 When he played the drum, I heard what seemed like sound from electricity at the front of the shine. 彼が太鼓をたたいた時、神殿の前から電気から発生するような音を聞いた。 I was scared a bit, but I thought that deity showed its presence in response to the drum sound. ちょっと怖かったが、神様が太鼓の音に反応して存在を示したのだと思った。 Some information online said that the sound is welcome sign form deity, or just echo of the drum, or the sound of creak of the building. ネットの情報では、その音は神様の歓迎の現れか、太鼓の音が反響したものか、建物のきしむ音だと言っていた。 The ritual took ten minutes. 儀式は１０分だった。  I felt calm surrounded by solemn atmosphere. おごそかな雰囲気に包まれて気持ちが落ち着いた。 There are only two months left this year, but I hope that my family will spend their days peace and quiet. 今年もあと２カ月だが、家族が無事に過ごせますように。
