Ameya-Yokocho, or Ameya Alley アメ横

My husband and I went to アメ横 on weekend. 週末夫とアメ横に行った。 When you go out the north gate of Okachimachi station, you will see an alley across the street, and there is another alley lined with shops under the railway bridge. 御徒町駅の北口を出ると、道路を挟んで路地が見えるだろう、そして高架下の店が並んだ路地もある。 We call the area アメ横. この一帯をアメ横と呼ぶ。 It is one of our favorite places because the quaint and chaotic atmospheres make us feel nostalgic. 私たちの好きな場所のひとつだ。風変りで、混とんとした雰囲気が懐かしい気持ちにさせる。 The place reminded us of an underground market of after World War II that I saw images on photos and videos. この場所は、写真やビデオで見た戦後の闇市を思い起こさせる。 However, after Covid, there were many foreign tourists come to the place, which makes me feel like I am in somewhere in an Asian country. でもコロナ以降、多くの外国人観光客がここにやって来ていて、それでどこかアジアの国にいるような気持ちになる。 In the past, there were many shops dealing with imported sweets, so I was really excited to see unfamiliar candy and chocolates with colorful labels written in English. 昔は、輸入菓子を扱う店が多くあったので、英語で書かれた包装紙の見慣れない飴やチョコレートを見るとワクワクした。 Since imported cosmetics were sold as well, I used to look for branded lip sticks or something that were advertised on women's magazine. 輸入化粧品も売っていたから、女性雑誌で宣伝していたブランド物の口紅などをを探したものだ。 The price was negotiable. 価格は交渉できた。 The number of these shops is decreasing. これらの店は減っていっている。 Instead, the number of stalls serving Japanese food and alcohol for tourists is increasing. 代わりに日本食と酒を出す店が増えている。
