残暑

日本語では「残暑」という言葉が秋の暑さを指します。英語ではこういう言葉にきちんと相当するものはないと思いますが、若者の間では話し言葉で「fake fall（ニセの秋）」と呼ばれることもあります。 毎年秋に暑さが続くのは、気候変動の影響かもしれません。 この地域では普通、ハロウィーンの週の後ですぐに冷え込んでいきます。この週は大学の秋休みなので、以前はどこかへ旅行に行き、戻る頃には寒くなっていたものです。 今年は秋休みの旅行計画がありませんが、とにかく暑さが続くそうです。これから10日間、最高気温は26.6度以上になる予報です。 それなら、この暖かさを楽しむしかないですね。

In Japanese, the word "zansho" refers to heat during the fall. I don't think there's a term in English that exactly corresponds to a word like this, but among young people's speech, it is sometimes referred to as "fake fall." The ongoing heat during the fall everywhere is probably due to global warming. Around these parts, it usually gets cold quickly after the week of Halloween. This week is fall break for my university, so in the past, I would travel somewhere else and come back to it already having gotten cold. This year, I don't have any fall break travel plans, but it looks like the heat isn't going anywhere anyway. These next 10 days, the daily high is going to be 80°F or above. In that case, I guess I have no choice but to enjoy the heat.
