    アメリカのスーパーでは、世界中からの果物や野菜を買うことができます。それらの農産物はたいてい、売れる地域と違う別の地域が原産です。例えば、アラスカのようなところのスーパーでは、バナナやオレンジ、パインなどの、温帯と熱帯の地域が原産であるものが売れています。それは極端な例ですが、要は、地元産の食品だけでなく、その土地固有の作物を見つけるのは難しいのです。 ところが、作物が栽培しにくい地域に住んでいる人もいます。上記の例のアラスカとか、砂漠に位置するアリゾナとか、土地固有の作物は少なかったり、ほぼなかったりします。それらの土地では、果物や野菜の輸入が必要です。 地元産、地元固有の食物を食べるのは環境にいいと思いますが、現実そうすることが必ずしも可能であるとは限りません。

    Crop Cultivation In American supermarkets, you can buy fruits and vegetables from around the world. The produce is generally native to a region different to the one where it's being sold in. For example, in a supermarket in a place like Alaska, products native to tropical and temperate climates, such as bananas, oranges, and pineapples are sold. Though an extreme example, the point is that it can be difficult to find not just locally-grown produce, but also crops native to the area. Nevertheless, people may live in regions where its difficult to cultivate crops. In places like Alaska (as in the example above) or Arizona, which is located in the desert, endemic crops may be few or nonexistent. In those places, fruits and vegetables must be imported. I think eating locally-produced or native food products can be good for the environment, but the truth is that doing so isn't always feasible.
