When I was a sophomore in college, my friend gave me an interesting birthday present. It was a mug with a map of the Earth on it. The map showed various climate zones with different colors, including deserts, temperate areas, and rainforests. What was interesting was what happened when you added a hot liquid, like tea or coffee to the mug. The map would change. The changes on the map reflect what the Earth would look like if global warming melted the polar ice caps. The land wouldn't just turn into the ocean; the climate zones would also change. For example, in the southeastern United States, the peninsula of Florida disappears, and the remaining land changes from temperate to desert. It typically rains year round in this area, so seeing the desert was a little hard to believe. I guess global warming affects the world in various and complicated ways.
