森の花嫁 (1)

森の花嫁（1） 以下は北欧の民話の一つです。 これから、その民話が手短に伝えたいと思います。皆さんにもご興味をお持ちいただければ幸いです。 ------- ある農家には三人の息子がいました。息子たちが大人になると、「森へ行き、木を切りなさい。倒れた木の指し示す方向へ行きなさい。きっと君たちそれぞれに相応しい花嫁が見つかるだろう。」と農家は息子たちにそういうふうに言っていました。 その後、長男も次男も立派な恋人を見つけました。しかし、三男が切り倒した木は、森の中のボロボロした小屋を指し示しており、そこには小さなネズミが一匹机の上に座っているだけでした。 三男は小屋に入り、大声で言いました。「ほら、ここには誰もいないよ！」 ネズミは咎めるように答えました。「やあ、私がここにいるんだよ！」 三男は心から笑いました。 「そうは言っても、君はただのネズミでしょ！ネズミを恋人にする男なんて、聞いたことがあるかい？」 ネズミは粛々と小さな首を振りました。「私の言っていることは本気だよ。もし、私があなたの恋人でなかったら、あなたはもっとひどい状況に陥っていたわ！たとえ私がただのネズミだったとしても、あなたを愛し、あなたに誠実でいられるわ。」とネズミは言いました。 (つづく) https://www.amazon.com/Nordic-Tales-Folktales-Finland-Iceland/dp/1452174474 [cb]The Forest Bride (1) The following is one of the Nordic tales. Whoever heard of a man having a mouse for a sweetheart!" The mouse shook her little head solemnly. "Take my word for it. You could do much worse than have me for a sweetheart!
