Tēpu Katto Shikiten (テープカット式典 - Ribbon Cutting Ceremony)

[h3][i]Tēpu Katto Shikiten[/i][/h3] Today, I participated in a [b][i]tēpu katto shikiten[/i][/b] (テープカット式典) for the launch of a new faculty at my university. ・[b][i]Tēpu [/i][/b](テープ) means "tape." ・[b][i]Katto [/i][/b](カット) means "cutting." ・[b][i]Shikiten [/i][/b](式典) means "ceremony." Therefore, the literal meaning of [i]tēpu katto shikiten [/i]is "tape cutting ceremony." As you can imagine, the tape cutting in Japan is the same as the ribbon cutting in the West. In this ceremony, the tape (ribbon) is cut with scissors to commemorate the opening of a new business or facility. This kind of ceremony is believed to originate from traditional European ceremonies. Someday, I would like to be in such a position to cut the tape (ribbon).

[h3]テープカット[/h3] 私は今日、大学の新しい学部の発足に際しテープカット式典に参加しました。 「テープ」・・・ “tape” 「カット」・・・ “cutting” 「式典」・・・ “ceremony” したがって、「テープカット式典」の文字どおりの意味は “tape cutting ceremony” となります。 日本の「テープカット」は、西洋におけるリボンカット（ribbon cutting）と同じもので、事業や施設の開業を記念するオープニングセレモニーにおいて、テープ（リボン）をハサミでカットする儀式のことです。 この儀式は、ヨーロッパの伝統的な式典に由来すると考えられています。 私もいつか、テープ（リボン）を切る立場になりたいです。
