Bōjaku Bujin
The four-character idiom bōjaku bujin (傍若無人) describes someone who acts selfishly, without consideration for others. ・Bō (傍) means “beside.” ・Jaku (若) means “as if.” ・Bu (無) means “no.” ・Jin (人) means “people.” Therefore, the literal meaning of bōjaku bujin is "as if there is no one beside you." This idiom originates from the following Chinese anecdote. The assasin named Jing Ke, who was hired to assasinate Qin Shi Haung, would drink a lot and make a racket. It was as if he behaved with the attitude that there was no one beside him.
傍若無人
周りの人のことを気にかけず、自分勝手に振る舞うことを、「傍若無人」と言います。 傍・・・beside 若・・・as if 無・・・no 人・・・people したがって「傍若無人」の文字どおりの意味は “as if there is no one beside you” となります。 この四字熟語は、中国の次のような故事に由来します。 秦の始皇帝を暗殺するために雇われた荊軻という刺客は、酒を飲むと周囲のことを気にもせず、身勝手に騒ぎました。 それは、まるで傍らに人が居ないかのような態度であったそうです。
