Utsutsu wo Nukeasu
The Japanese phrase utsutsu wo nukasu (うつつを抜かす) describes being absorbed in something. Utsutsu (うつつ) means "reality" or "sanity," and is also used as an antonym for "dream." In addition, nukasu (抜かす) means "to extract" or "to remove," so the literal meaning of utsutsu wo nukasu is "to remove reality." It implies that being in a state where reality or sanity is removed is similar to being absorbed in something. Incidentally, there is another phrase muchū ni naru (夢中になる) formed by yume (夢 - "dream"), chū (中 - "in"), and naru (なる - "to become"), which also has a similar meaning to utsutsu wo nukasu.
