食い意地が張っている

Have you ever heard of the Japanese expression "食い意地が張っている"? I'm not sure what's the good translation into English, but it refer to being greedy for food. I was thin when I was young, but I could eat a lot. However, as I've gotten older, I haven't been able to eat as much as I used to.  My husband says he hasn't been able to eat much lately either. We used to  go to all-you-can-eat restaurants occasionally, but we say it's no longer wise to spend money at such restaurants. That's because we can no longer eat enough food to justfy the cost. Since we are "食い意地が張っている,"  if we go to such restaurants, we might overeat.  That's why why we haven't been to any all-you-can-eat restaurants lately. Last Thursday, my husband met a friend from university at lunchtime, and his friend took him a restaurant run by a famous mentaiko maker.  It's not all-you-can-eat, but you can eat as much as mentaiko, pickled mustard greens, and rice as you want. My husband said he finished everything served as part of the set meal, but didn't eat much of the mentaiko.  Last Sunday, my husband and I went to see the movie in the morning, and we went to have lunch at the restaurant. We each ordered different set meals. The waiter who showed us to our seats told us to let him know if we wanted more mentaiko, pickled mustard greens, or rice. We didn't order any extras, but we finished everything. That means I ate the same amount as my husband. I got way too full. Mentaiko from the maker is quite expensive. My husband said he ate a luxurious amount of mentaiko, he could never eat at home. I felt exactly the same.  Since I ate too much, I couldn't eat anything for dinner.
