Aonishiki Won the Championship

Aonishiki is a sumo wrestler from Ukrain. He's years old. He arrived in Japan in April 2022, shortly after Russia invaded Ukrain.  Today was the final day of the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament. As of yesterday, there were three wrestlers with three losses: two Yokozuna and Aonishiki. The Yokozuna match was scheduled for the final bout, but one of them withdrew, resulting in the other being declared the winner automatically. To win the championship, Aonishiki had to defeat Kotozakura, an Ozeki, in their match first. He won the match.  Then he faced the Yokozuna in the championship final. Actually, Aonishiki faced that Yokozuna yesterday and won the match.  My son, husband and I cheered him on. When he defeated the Yokozuna, we burst out with joy. Since he won the championship, he is expected to be promoted to Ozeki, the second-highest ranki in sumo.  I think that the he news that he won will surely encourage the people of Ukraine.
