Wrist Surgery

As some of you know, I broke my right wrist last May. I had surgery and had a plate inserted. I didn't know until recently that the plate is usually removed about a year later.  This past Monday, I saw the doctor and he decided the date for the surgery. I will have the surgery on June 6th. According to him, I will go to the hospital by 8:30 am, immediately undergo the surgery, stay overnight and come back home the next morning.  I had to go through different tests that were necessary for the surgery on Monday.  Thinking of coming back home soon, the surgery is not so difficult. I just hope I won't suffer from too much pain after the anesthesia wears off. After the doctor explained the surgery to me, I was about to leave the room, and then he said, "Oh, I forgot asking you if you want to keep the plate." I replied, "No, thank you." I wondered if some people want to keep it, but for what.
