Today I watched a TED-Ed's video, which delves into the history of credit cards.
The credit card was invented by a businessman Frank Mcnamara in 1949.
One day, when he was about to foot the bill , he suddenly found that he forgot to bring his wallet.
This embarrassing situation inspired him to create the first credit card in the world.
By the end of 2024, the credit card debt in the US alone had reached 1.12 trillion US dollars.
This story reminds me that many Taiwanese people, especially young
generation, max out their credit card and have to pay minimum balance on
their credit card debt every month.
What's even worse is that the revolving interests make some people abuse their line of other credit cards to pay off the original debts.
In Chinese-speaking countries, we often call these people card slaves.
I have only two cards.
One is a credit card, and the other is a debit card.
Although some people figure that I miss out many benefits from other cards, I instead believe that I hence won't be lured into making unnecessary consumption.
