China Airlines is the largest civil airline carrier in Taiwan. Rumor had it that this airline was cast on a "Four-year Deadline" curse as during 1994 to 2002, it ran into a major plane crash in which the death toll reached over 200, every four year. On April 26, 1994, the Nagoya air crash killed 246 people with 7 people injured. On February 16, 1998, the Dayuan air crash, no one survived. On May 25, 2002, the Penghu Air Crash killed 225 people. Because of this series of accidents, China Airlines proceeded to reforming its security system across the board. It also fired many higher-ups, and a large number of pilots with Air Force backgrounds were eliminated during the reassessment. Since then, no severe airplane crash has occurred with this airline.
