Do you know Warren Buffett? If you’re interested in technology, you can think of him as Bill Gates’ closest friend. If you’re interested in wealthy individuals, you can consider him one of the world’s billionaires. If you’re interested in a thrifty life, you can regard him as a role model. And if you’re interested in investment, I’m sure you’re familiar with his name.
He’s a renowned investor, which is distinctive in many ways. I’m not familiar with investment at all, but I appreciate his philosophy of life. He mentioned many insightful things that could apply to our life, and I think one of them is especially worth knowing for people living in the modern world.
He said, “The big question about how people behave is whether they’ve got an Inner Scorecard or an Outer Scorecard. It helps if you can be satisfied with an Inner Scorecard”.
I think an inner scoreboard and an outer scoreboard are thought-provoking notions. To put it simply, an inner scoreboard is whether you emphasize criteria inside you. An outer scoreboard is whether you value how others see you.
When you look around today’s world, you can see so many people follow their outer scoreboard. They're on social media, in big cities, and in our daily life. I don’t mean to judge them, but interestingly, Warren Buffett is evaluated as the most venerable person just because he believes in his inner scoreboard.
Like him, I want to prioritize my inner scoreboard over my outer scoreboard.
