In 2023, if you can remember, ChatGPT was launching its first version of generative artificial intelligence. Many were amazed by this invention, with some even anticipating the potential it comes with. Not long after, Bing, Google, and a bunch of other companies developed their own versions of ChatGPT.
Now, in 2025, two years and a couple of months after the launching of that first version of ChatGPT, the world has drastically changed. But has it changed for the better?
Most professionals today use artificial intelligence in their business environments. Every new piece of software has artificial intelligence incorporated in it. On social media, you cannot avoid a scrolling session without seeing images generated using AI. And let’s not forget that most of the online content is being generated with the likes of ChatGPT or Google Gemini.
One can say that artificial intelligence has made life easier for the average mortal. Now, we all have more time on our hands to do what we want. However, this turn to using digital gadgets comes with its own problems.
Like anything good in this world, artificial intelligence comes with its negative side.
The Danger of Misinformation
During the Cold War propaganda was everywhere. It was part of everyday life. If in the West, propaganda was nicely foiled around consumerist culture, in the East, large portraits and parades dedicated to men and ideas made the scene.
With the end of the Cold War, the digital era came. It was a freeing time, in which everyone had access to information through the click of a button. Unfortunately, this freedom of information brought with it the freedom of disinformation.
Ever since the internet became available to the masses, the masses have been misinformed by one group or the other. If we were to count the number of viral pieces of fake news, we wouldn’t have the time, energy, or nerves to count them.
Now, with the rise of artificial intelligence, misinformation has become even worse. Viral videos of fake videos have flooded the internet. On the one hand, a famous celebrity “tells” us about something big that is going to happen. On the other hand, people that don’t even exist “warn” us about disasters that are going to happen.
If you open Facebook, X.com, or YouTube, you may stumble upon a video that is completely generated with an AI tool. The people in it aren’t real. The scene isn’t real. The story doesn’t resemble reality. Nothing about it is real. The scariest part of it should be that the whole thing was made in less than one minute, using a simple piece of text (a prompt) to offer the AI an idea.
A lot of content is generated like that in 2025. Some even say that most of the content generated this year comes from AI. This is the dark side of AI, but also a wonder—the wonder that in just a minute, with a simple text, a machine can generate something so humane.
