The push-up is a fundamental exercise for muscle growth. Nobody who is serious about muscular development and physical health skips this exercise from his or her workout routine.
Why You Should Do Push-Ups
I’ve been doing one hundred push-ups, two sets of fifty twice per day. Early in the morning, I wake up and do fifty push-ups. Then, during the evening, I take two minutes of my time to do another set of fifty push-ups. I’ve been following this routine for over one year, now, and there’s a reason why I am telling you this.
If you’ve never done so many push-ups in one day, you have every right to be skeptical that you can do fifty push-ups in a row. Fear not! Doing push-ups is a skill. With time, you can become better at it. That’s why I advise starting a routine when it comes to push-ups.
When you are capable of fifty push-ups in one set, you, too, will notice the benefits. Until then, continue reading the article to see what awaits you.
Muscle Building & Strength
With time, you will improve your number of push-ups that you can do. This is because you will become stronger. As they say, practice makes it all better. With practice, you will become better at doing push-ups.
But what is the science behind it? The increase in muscle mass. Yes, regular push-ups will help you have more muscle mass. One important detail that makes many do push-ups regularly.
Improved Posture
By doing push-ups regularly, you will improve your body core, a direct result of having more muscle mass. With a stronger core, your posture will improve considerably.
For starters, you will walk straight better, an important detail. Other than that, you will appear more confident, which comes with social benefits.
Better Functional Fitness
What’s better than having good posture, more strength, and better muscle mass? A skill that helps you in real life. This is what the idea of functional fitness is all about.
The movement of a push-up mimics real-life actions like pushing yourself up from the ground or bracing for a fall. This makes you more prepared for daily activities and can help prevent injuries.
If that’s not a great reason for doing push-ups daily, I don’t know what is.
Better Bone Health
Besides increased muscle mass, a routine of daily push-ups can help increase your bone density. (At least most studies tell us today.) As a weight-bearing exercise, push-ups can help maintain and even increase bone density, which is particularly beneficial as you age.
Mental Health
Push-ups offer you more than physical benefits. Not only will your body be better off, but your mind will also thrive.
Committing to a goal of doing one hundred push-ups daily forces you to discipline yourself. A more disciplined life often leads to a healthier mind. Moreover, let’s not forget that by performing physical exercises daily, you will get better sleep. If you didn’t know, I am here to tell you: sleep is the best therapist in the world.
Of course, exercise releases endorphins, which are "feel-good" hormones that can help alleviate stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression.
Are You Up for the Challenge?
A routine of push-ups can bring immense benefits for your mind and body. The question remains, are you up for the challenge?
If you can do fifty push-ups in one set, I invite you to start doing them regularly. You may need some adjustment time, but in two weeks you shouldn’t have issues doing fifty push-ups in the morning and another fifty in the evening.
If you are not at that level, I invite you to start working out on this challenge. In one year from now, if you are consistent, you may do one hundred push-ups daily and even more than that.
