During my university years, the school assigned us to study Japanese based on our majors. The reason was that Japan has highly developed science and technology.
Since this was specialized Japanese, many Japanese vocabulary words were loanwords. We studied Japanese-style English, used katakana, and pronounced it in a Japanese-style English manner.
During my middle school years, I learned authentic British English, but when I was learning Japanese, I was required to imitate Japanese pronunciation when reading English.
After graduating from university, I decided to relearn authentic British English and imitate the British accent when speaking English.
