Repetition

Many people think their poor English is due to a bad memory. But the real reason is a lack of repetition. The brain needs repeated stimulation to solidify knowledge. Great leaners don't rely on talent. They turn short term memory into long term mastery through consistent practice. Everyone admires those with[cb] a photographic memory,[/cb] but few are willing to put in the same amount of repetition. Most people seek quick learning, yet dislke the boring process of reviewing over and over again. The essence of language learning is trading time for fluency. The world only rewards those who are willing to put in the hard, repetitive work. If you truly want to master a new language, don't aim to learn everything at once, aim to repeat it until it becomes muscle memory. Every English learner has probably seen the film Forrest Gump. But few people watch it more than 50 times until they can recite all the dialogues. One of my favorite is stupid is as stupid does. Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.
