    The State of Arizona

What do you know about Arizona? Arizona was settled by Spanish speakers long before many English speakers arrived. Hispanics make up about 65% of the population, and Phoenix is the largest city in Arizona. Tucson is home to the largest cactus[cb] saguaro [/cb]in North America. There are more than 1.5 million saguaros grow in [cb]the Saguaro National Park.[/cb] These plants can grow up to be over 50 feet tall, and when spring comes, the saguaros also produce blossoms, making it the Arizona's state flower. With such a desert landscape, it's easy to think of Arizona as a wild and uninhabited place. However the dry scorching desert is perfect for airplanes, with over 4,400 retired aircraft lining the desert. This desert is also called the airplane graveyard. The planes came to bask in the Arizona sun, and some were disassembled for parts. In recent years, coal-fired powerplants in the United States have been gradually shutting down. The Navajo coal-fired powerplant has been labeled the most polluting in the country. The pollution almost blocks out the sun and threatens the health of local residents. That's why officials are looking at alternative energy sources to clean the air, including wind farms. [cb]I saw the video of the Navajo Powerplant being blown down.[/cb] It was a shocking scene when huge smokestacks collapsed due to the explosion. In fact, the coal-fired powerplant was already closed in 2019 and dismantled in December 2020. [cb]As we all know, Arizona shares a border with Mexico.[/cb] For over a hundred years little attention was paid to the border, with locals coming and going to do business, but in the late 20th century tensions over illegal immigration and drug trafficking began to emerge. Today, millions of legal goods cross the border every year, but the biggest threat is the underground tunnels that are invisible to the cameras.
