    An Interesting Japanese Sentence

(Is Japanese really so difficult? Part 138)

I sometimes use Q&A site. Yesterday, I came across an interesting Japanese sentence on the website.

A user asked if they should have a gastroscopy or not.

The user wrote the following sentence.

    胃カメラをしたことがなく死ぬ人もいるというのも知って怖くてできません。

When I read the sentence at first, I thought that the sentence  sounded strange because the sentence means:

I'm scared of having gastroscopy because I heard of there is a person who haven't had a gastroscopy and is going to die.

(By the way, does the sentence "I heard of there is a person who is going to die not having the gastroscopy" strange? )

Can you guess what the user wanted to say?

I thought the user wanted to say:

    (私は)胃カメラをしたことがなく、(胃カメラで)死ぬ人もいるというのを知って、怖くてできません。

That means: I've never had a gastroscopy and I'm scared of having it because some people are going to die after having a gastroscopy.
